On New Year’s Day, a man was killed in an unprovoked attack when he was pushed into an oncoming train in San Diego.

San Diego police say the attack took place around 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, and the suspect remains at large after fleeing on foot from the scene.

Both the victim and suspect were walking on the Old Town station platform after exiting a southbound trolley, when the suspect then shoved the victim into the side of a moving train, according to the authorities.

“The male struck the side of a passing train, causing his injuries,” said police, and the victim was later found unconscious by officers and had “apparent trauma to his upper body.” He was pronounced dead at 6:23 a.m. The victim’s identity has not been released, but he has been described as an older white male.

According to the police statement, the suspect is a thin, light-skinned male who is between 5-feet-7 inches and 5-feet-9 inches tall.
