Samantha Markle’s Defamation Suit Against Half-Sister Meghan Markle Will Go To Trial

A tentative trial date has been scheduled for Samantha Markle’s defamation lawsuit against her half-sister Meghan Markle.

A federal judge in Florida originally ruled that the trial would start on November 4, 2024. According to legal papers filed this month, he expected it to last about five days.

The date was rescheduled to an amended suit filed by Samantha, as her original case was thrown out earlier this year.

Samantha has claimed that Meghan defamed her during her tell-all with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, in which she and Prince Harry said that she “grew up as an only child” and didn’t have a close relationship with Samantha. She is seeking $75,000 in damages.

The updated suit alleges that Meghan’s statements damaged Samantha’s reputation and the credibility of her book, The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part One, which discusses her relationship with her half-sister over the years.

Samantha’s filed her initial suit against Meghan in March 2022. It was tossed when U.S. District Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell ruled that Meghan’s statements were “not capable of being proved false.”

Samantha’s lawyer, Peter Ticktin, told Newsweek that he feels confident that the new case will make it to trial.

“Once I explained how and why Meghan did what she did, to discourage readers from reading Samantha’s book which was titled with the name Princess Pushy in it, the whole case made more sense,” he said.

Meghan’s lawyer, Michael Kump, does not believe Samantha has a shot at winning.

“This has always been a lawsuit in search of a viable claim,” Klump explained. “The case has failed because it runs head first up against defamation law and the First Amendment.”

Meghan was recently spotted at Katy Perry‘s final concert of her Vegas residency with her very bored-looking husband, Prince Harry.
