Sam Worthington and his longtime girlfriend Lara Bingle were secretly wed last December.
Bingle, 28, revealed her marriage to Worthington, 39, on KIISFM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show. “It was very intimate, we just popped into Melbourne where Sam’s family is from,” said Bingle, who said there were less than 10 people present at the nuptials.
For the ceremony, at which the Australian model wore a Louis Vuitton wedding dress, Bingle and Worthington each wrote their vows and teamed up to put it all together.
“We wrote the whole celebration, we wrote all our vows,” Bingle said.
At the time of their wedding on Dec. 28, 2014, Bingle was six months pregnant with her and Worthington’s son Rocket Zot, who was born in March.
After announcing their son’s name, the couple was met with criticism, particularly in regard to his middle name. From Bingle’s Twitter account, Worthington took a number of publications to task and revealed that Zot was his father’s nickname.
“My son’s middle name IS a respectful nod to my late father, whose nickname was affectionate, Zot,” Worthington tweeted. “I wish Australian journalism would rethink employing people who have some respect, and integrity, who either fact check or not comment – rather than just print the juvenile, spurious ramblings of some pseudo journalist … ”
Worthington is best known for playing Jake Scully in Avatar, a part which he’s slated to reprise in three announced sequels. His more recent projects include Cake and Everest. Bingle has appeared on the over of ELLE, Grazia and New Idea among other publications.
