Deadpool Movie
Despite the two 2017 Golden Globe nominations Deadpool received, and the subsequent hype surrounding the film for the Oscars, Deadpool received no Oscar nominations this year.
This disappointing outcome, however, didn’t keep the star of the film, Ryan Reynolds, from losing his humor or good nature. Following the lack of Oscar mentions, Reynolds tweeted: “Regularly scheduled tickle-fight at Camp #Deadpool is still on. Congrats to all the nominees for these brilliant films. #Oscars2017.”
The “tickle-fight” was in reference to an earlier post Reynolds had tweeted following the Golden Globe nominations for the film. The R-rated superhero had tweeted: “Thank you, Golden Globes! As we speak, the entire Deadpool team is engaged in a grotesque, early morning tickle-fight.”
Reynolds had his own explanation for why the superhero film didn’t receive any nods from the Oscars this year.
“I’ve always said that I wish the Oscars had a category for comedy as well,” Reynolds said “It’s not an easy job. Often times with comedies you have to have some pathos and real grit that in turn earns you the right to subvert expectations and be funny. It takes a lot of construction.”
It makes sense, then, that Deadpool, with its mix of dark comedy and superhero style, didn’t perform as well at the Oscars.
Meanwhile, La La Land managed to score 14 nominations — a record-making amount that has only been achieved by the classics Titanic and All About Eve.
