Ryan Murphy’s ‘Pose’ Picked Up By FX With Largest Transgender Cast Ever

Ryan Murphy’s Pose, which is currently poised to host the biggest cast of transgender actors of any television program, has been picked up by FX.

RYAN MURPHY’S POSE SERIES PICKED UP BY FX

Pose is set in Manhattan during the mid-80s, exploring its period and the culture it spawned. Donald Trump-era luxuries will be compared and contrasted with the more traditional social happenings of the city. Furthermore, the musical’s first season will contain a cast of over 50 LGBTQ characters, which itself is also a record for a prime-time television show.

Murphy, who’s excited to share his artistic vision, will direct Pose’s groundbreaking first two episodes. According to Variety, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals co-created Pose with Murphy, and they will remain onboard with its production as executive producers along with Alexis Martin Woodall, Brad Simpson, Erica Kaye, Nina Jacobson and Sherry Marsh. Plus, Janet Mock and Our Lady J, both of whom are transgender writers, will produce the series.

Although Tatiana Maslany, known for her role on Orphan Black, was originally slated to star, her part is now set to be filled by Charlayne Woodard. However, other cast members who signed on for the series – namely Evan Peters, Kate Mara and James Van Der Beek – are still attached to it.

In a statement, FX Network’s CEO, John Landgraf, said, “In the 15 years we’ve worked with Ryan, he has demonstrated time and again that every person’s story is joyful, illuminating, and must… be told.”
