Ryan Gosling took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical for his performance in La La Land, and gave a heartfelt thank you to his wife Eva Mendes.
Gosling took the time of his acceptance speech to thank his “lady” Mendes. “I would like to try and thank one person properly,” he began, before his emotional thank you. “While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter and pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.
“If she hadn’t have taken all that on so that I could have this experience there would surely be someone up here other than me today, so sweetheart thank you. To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you. And if I may, I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother Juan Carlos Mendes.”
Unfortunately, Mendes’ brother passed away from throat cancer after a two year battle this past April at the age of 53. Mendes, 42, gave birth to her second child with Gosling in May 2016.
