The latest news on the 50 Shades of Grey casting front calls on man of the moment, Ryan Gosling, 31, who has recently starred in such critical hits as Blue Valentine; Drive; Crazy, Stupid Love; and The Ides of March, to step into the undoubtedly expensive shoes of Christian Grey from the erotic "mommy porn" novel by E.L. James — at least, that's what her husband, Niall Leonard, is saying.

Leonard reportedly says that the "last he heard," Gosling was in place to play the role of the troubled sexual sadist Grey, according to the U.K.'s Now magazine. While the comment is getting some people talking, many are skeptical.

"It's possible what Niall said was misunderstood, especially since the words about Ryan aren't posted in a direct quote, but it's not like Ry-guy's name has never come up before," reports WetPaint.

While it's not certain that Gosling is stepping into the S&M-loving role of Grey, one thing is for sure, says Leonard — his wife's creation of Christian Grey is not based on him. "I'm glad I'm not him because he's actually damaged," said Leonard, whose wife's real name is Erika Leonard. "I wouldn't have liked to go through what he went through."

Other names that have been thrown around for the role of Christian Grey include Matt Bomer, Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, Henry Cavill, Ian Somerhalder, Bradley Cooper and Alexander Skarsgard, to say nothing of who will possibly play Anastasia Steele.
