Vladimir Putin’s Russian Navy General Stanislav Rzhitsky was assassinated while on his morning run on Monday at 6 a.m. in Krasnodar.
Russian investigators believe that Ukraine is responsible for his murder and that they were able to find his location by utilizing the jogging app Strava, where Rzhitsky’s public profile could be seen. Because he was public, anyone could see where the general typically ran when he went for a jog.
Investigators believe that the assailant waited at the 30th Anniversary of the Victory Park in Krasnodar near Rzhitsky’s typical jogging route. The assassin shot Rzhitsky when he got close to the Olympus sports complex. Rzhitsky immediately died after he was shot four times in the chest and back.
The only information investigators have determined is that a Makarov pistol was used and seven bullets were fired. There were no witnesses at the scene due to rain, making Rzhitsky an easy target.
Russia is currently investigating Rzhitsky’s death and has not identified the shooter or their motive. They arrested Serhiy Denysenko, who they are currently questioning as they believe he is connected to the murder.

Ukraine is insisting that they were not involved in the assassination, despite suspicions. Many believe that Ukraine wanted revenge after Rzhitsky may have been the captain of a submarine that killed 27 Ukrainians in a bombing last year. This includes a four-year-old girl who died while her mother was severely injured.
Rzhitsky’s address and personal information were on the website Myrotvorets, owned by Ukraine, which is a database with believed enemies of Ukraine. Rzhitsky’s photograph on the site was covered with the word “Liquidated” written in red.
This is not the only Russian general to have been killed in recent months. Lieutenant General Oleg Tsokov was killed on Tuesday. His cause of death has been unconfirmed, but he was one of the most experienced generals Russia had. He is also the most senior general to have died in Ukraine.
