In a significant blow to the Russian military, new reports indicate substantial losses in Ukraine, with the Ukrainian General Staff’s announcement on April 30 that approximately 1,250 Russian soldiers were killed in a single day.

Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Troop Grouping, highlighted that on April 25, a significant majority, around 85%, of Russian losses occurred in the eastern direction. This applies to personnel and equipment, underscoring the intensity of the conflict in that region.

Leo Doherty, the British Secretary of State for the Armed Forces, shared on April 27 that British estimates suggest Russian troops have lost around 450,000 personnel, combined killed and wounded, since the commencement of the full-scale invasion in Ukraine.

Last December, a U.S. military report assessed that Russia had lost 87% of its standing army in the Ukraine war.

The Russian causalities are welcome news for Ukraine, which has been losing ground in the war in recent months. Last week, President Joe Biden signed a bill approving $67 billion in new military funding for Ukraine.
