Russell Crowe revealed that he received prank calls from Michael Jackson regularly for years, despite the fact that the two had never met.

Michael Jackson Used To Prank Call Russell Crowe

Crowe, who is currently doing a press tour to promote his directorial debut, The Water Diviner, opened up about his odd relationship with Jackson while talking about his dislike of the Hollywood lifestyle. Though many would probably be thrilled to have received prank phone calls from the King of Pop, to Crowe it was just a strange by-product of making it in Hollywood.

“For two or three f—king years. I never met him, never shook his hand, but he found out the name I stayed in hotels under, so it didn’t matter where I was, he’d ring up do this kind of thing, like you did when you were 10, you know. ‘Is Mr. Wall there? Is Mrs. Wall there? Are there any Walls there? Then what’s holding the roof up? Ha ha.’ You’re supposed to grow out of doing that, right?” Crowe told The Guardian.

Crowe has previously spoken about Jackson’s love of prank calls in a 2013 interview.

Crowe had a brief stint as Hollywood’s darling after his starring turn in The Gladiator (2000), but his reputation in Los Angeles has soured over the years due to his reported anger outbursts and fights with the press. It’s not surprising that Crowe, who resides in Australia, is vocal about his dislike of L.A.

“It’s not healthy for me as an individual, to sleep in the office. There’s an ease that I have living in Australia. The best things about Sydney are free: the sunshine’s free and the harbour’s free and the beach is free. Some cities, and this place is one example, there’s all these clubs and you need membership and, you know, six people to tick your name and all that. F—k all that, man,” Crowe said.
