Rupert Murdoch Reportedly Told Fourth Wife Jerry Hall He Was Divorcing Her By Email

Rupert Murdoch, 92, divorced his fourth wife, Jerry Hall, by email, writing, “We have certainly had some good times, but I have much to do.”

At the time, in June 2022, Hall was waiting to meet with her husband at their Oxfordshire mansion.

Within a few months, the couple divorced. Hall was reportedly “devastated, mad and humiliated” after caring for Murdoch through health scares and isolating with him during COVID, according to a report by Vanity Fair.

According to Gabriel Sherman, a journalist who has covered the Murdochs for decades, the couple’s divorce settlement had a clause preventing Hall from talking to the writers of the HBO drama series, Succession, which draws influence from the Murdoch family’s interpersonal dynamics. Just like the fictional TV show, Murdoch’s four children are fighting over who will inherit the business when he dies.

Murdoch also recently stated that he had broken off his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith, a conservative radio host, just two weeks after his tabloid, the New York Post, announced the engagement.

It has also been a difficult time for Murdoch in his business life. In 2019, he sold the majority of his entertainment businesses, including 21st Century Fox, to competitors.

Fox News, which Murdoch also owns, is facing a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit from the voting machine company Dominion after the news channel promoted Donald Trump‘s false claims that the 2020 U.S. presidential election had been “stolen.”

The past several months have consisted of the disclosure of several pieces of internal correspondence among employees at Fox News. Jury selection for the trial began on Thursday.
