Actor Rupert Grint gave his opinion on the rumored upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO Max based on the book series by J.K. Rowling. Grint is best known for portraying Ron Weasley, the extremely bumbling yet unquestionably loyal best friend of Harry Potter. Grint first starred as the character in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001, before going on to appear in every film the series that followed it, concluding with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011. While still very much active in his acting career, Grint has not received as much recognition as his two co-leads from the Harry Potter film series Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. With the rumor of a Harry Potter series on HBO Max quickly growing, Grint was inevitably asked about his thoughts about it during an interview.

Grint revealed that he was rather unsure if he supported the project due to the fact that he had portrayed Ron Weasley for so long and cannot imagine the character being recast in another major project. “It’ll be weird if it was a continuation kind of thing,” he told Variety. “I weirdly feel quite protective of that character. Even when I saw the stage shows, it was a very strange experience.… If it’s like a different group of friends, I guess it would be interesting.”
