Rudy Giuliani Officially Disbarred In New York For Lying In Court About 2020 Election

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was formally disbarred in New York for lying in court about the 2020 election.

The long-awaited disbarment of the former president’s attorney, which went through several proceedings before the court’s final decision on July 2, is effective immediately.

Giuliani had already been suspended from being able to practice law while the New York court considered attorney discipline proceedings against him.

“The seriousness of [Giuliani’s] misconduct cannot be overstated,” the court wrote. “[Giuliani] flagrantly misused his prominent position as the personal attorney for the former president and his campaign, through which [he] repeatedly and intentionally made false statements, some of which were perjurious, to the federal court, state lawmakers, the public, the [Attorney Grievance Committee], and this Court concerning the 2020 Presidential election, in which he baselessly attacked and undermined the integrity of this country’s electoral process.”

They also mentioned that Giuliani “not only deliberately violated some of the most fundamental tenets of the legal profession, but he also actively contributed to the national strife that has followed the 2020 Presidential election, for which he is entirely unrepentant.”

“Contrary to respondent’s allegations, there is nothing on the record before us that would permit the conclusion that respondent lacked knowledge of the falsehood of the numerous statements that he made and that he had a good faith basis to believe them to be true,” the decision stated.

In its ruling, the court pointed to the former attorney’s efforts to alter the election results in several 2020 battleground states, such as Arizona and Georgia.

Additionally, the court said that it found that the former attorney “falsely and dishonestly” claimed during the 2020 election that thousands of votes were cast in the names of dead people in Philadelphia, such as a ballot in the name of the late boxer Joe Frazier.

He also argued that people were taken from nearby Camden, New Jersey, to vote unlawfully in Philadelphia, according to the court.

“These false statements were made to improperly bolster respondent’s narrative that due to widespread voter fraud, victory in the 2020 United States election was stolen from his client,” the decision mentioned.

Giuliani responded immediately after the decision was announced.

“I’m not surprised that I’ve been disbarred by a Bar Ass’n, which is a politically and ideologically integral part of the one-party corrupted court system for a long time,” Giuliani stated in an X post on Tuesday.

“Judges, like [JuanMerchan and [ArthurEngoron in NYC, are selected by local bosses,” he went on to say. “These judges, just like in a one-party Communist dictatorship, are not really elected but selected by the Democrat local bosses and often run unopposed.”

“The case is based on an activist complaint, replete with false arguments, a hearing officer who was a former judge from the same corrupt selection process, and a tape with almost 1/4th of the most critical parts erased and covered up by either the Chief NY Bar ‘persecutor’ and his staff, or the Sec’y of State of Georgia,” he stated.

Ted Goodman, a spokesman for Giuliani, also slammed the disbarment in a statement.

“Members of the legal community who respect the rule of law in this country should immediately come forward and speak out against this politically and ideologically corrupted decision,” Goodman stated. “We will be appealing this objectively flawed decision in hopes that the appellate process will restore integrity to our system of justice.”

A report from the D.C. Bar Association released on July 7, 2023, recommended that Giuliani be disbarred due to his efforts to help the former president alter the 2020 election without evidence.

Last month, the D.C. Bar’s Board on Professional Responsibility suggested that he be disbarred for lying in court filings.

The Board on Professional Responsibility harshly reviewed Giuliani’s attempts to overturn the results in Pennsylvania.

They mentioned that the former New York City mayor “urged a federal judge to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania voters even though he had no objectively reliable evidence that any such scheme existed.”
