The CW’s Arrowverse — a shared universe consisting of live-action shows based on DC Comics’ characters — has found its Batwoman, and it’s Ruby Rose.
Greg Berlanti‘s interconnected universe is slated to have a major event coming this December, which will also provide us with Batwoman’s debut. Afterwards, there are plans to spin-off the heroine into her own headlining series should Berlanti be given the green light to do so.
Batwoman currently has Caroline Dries, whose resume includes The Vampire Diaries, writing the script. Set in the iconic Gotham City, Batwoman, also known by her civilian identity as Kate Kane, will use her fighting prowess to combat crime. However, she’ll also do battle with her inner conflicts too.

If Batwoman becomes a series, it’ll be the latest in CW’s venerable roster of DC Comics adaptions, including Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning. Additionally, more live-action Arrowverse shows — including Titans and Doom Patrol — are slated to come to DC’s online subscription-based streaming service, which will launch next month.
Rose’s casting in the role comes from a conscious effort to cast LGBQT actors and actresses following Nicole Maines’ procuring the role of Dreamer on Supergirl. Just as Maines will portray television’s first live-action transgender hero, Rose will perform as the first live-action lesbian hero.
