Ruby Rose Announces She Is Leaving CW’s ‘Batwoman’ Series

Ruby Rose announced that she will not be returning to CW’s Batwoman television series at the end of its first season.

In an official statement Rose said, “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created.”

Batwoman is the first superhero show to have an openly gay character. Producers of the show stated, “the studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman‘s second season and long-term future, and we – along with the show’s talented creative team – look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

Rose received a lot of backlash when she was originally cast for the role of Batwoman. Many believed that a lesbian actress should have gotten the role. Rose has referred to herself has being gender fluid. She later deleted her Twitter account, but is still active on Instagram.

In September 2019, Rose posted an Instagram revealing that she had herniated two discs while studying for Batwoman. She said, “A couple of months ago I was told I needed an emergency surgery or I was risking becoming paralyzed… I had herniated two discs doing stunts, and they were close to severing my spinal chord. I was in chronic pain and yet couldn’t feel my arms…”

Rose is known for her portrayal of Stella Carlin in Orange is the New Black. She has also made appearances in Pitch Perfect 3 and The Meg.
