Rosie Perez has decided to leave her co-hosting gig on ABC’s The View in order to more fully focus on her acting career.
The View executive producer Bill Wolff announced Perez’s impending departure in an email to staff Tuesday.
“Our friend Rosie Perez has decided to leave the show at the conclusion of this season to pursue full time her love for acting,” Wolff wrote in an internal email obtained by Deadline. “Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive. And beyond being an enormously talented performer, Rosie is a dedicated advocate who has brought passion and insight to the panel every day.”
“Rosie will always be a part of The View family, and we will welcome her back as a guest anytime to catch up,” Wolff’s email continued. “We’ll plan a proper send off for her in a few weeks, but in the meantime, please join me in thanking her for her great work on the show.”
It was first rumored back in January that Perez planned to leave The View. At the time, she was taking a break from the show to appear on Broadway in Fish in the Dark. ABC apparently wasn’t ready to announce Perez’s plans at the time and was busy trying to to determine a replacement, Variety had reported.
Perez’s last day on air is said to be Aug. 6.
Whoopi Goldberg and the newly added Raven-Symone are both expected to return to The View for its next season. It’s unknown whether or not Nicolle Wallace will also keep her place on the panel.
