Rosie O’Donnell Refuses To Post $4,000 Bail For Daughter, Chelsea, After Drug Arrest: ‘You Belong In There’
On Nov. 12, Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter, Chelsea O’Donnell, appeared in court in Wisconsin after being arrested a month earlier.
Chelsea spent a month in jail before she was released on a $4,000 bond.
Chelsea’s legal trouble started a month earlier on Sept. 10 when the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in which aggressive arguing could be heard in the background; cops responded to Chelsea and her boyfriend Jacob Nelund’s house.
Police report noted that Chelsea’s pupils were dilated, and they found a meth pipe with residue on her. Later, they also uncovered a bag of pills Chelsea claimed to be Alprazolam (Xanax) on her, along with a small vile of meth. A marijuana pipe with residue was found on Nelund.
An officer’s report of the scene described the house’s shambolic appearance: “The inside of the home was disgusting; throughout the house, I saw rotten food, dirty moldy dishes, milk that stunk so bad it almost made me puke, dirty diapers, used female hygiene products, unclean underwear with feces and blood stains and used razor blades on the floor.”
The report continued, “Inside the bedroom belonging to Chelsea, where [the child] was initially found, there was a meth pipe, a gem bag with methamphetamine inside, a marijuana grinder, and another container with marijuana shake in it.”
Chelsea and Nelund share their infant son Atlas, born in October 2023. Chelsea shares her three other children, Skylar Rose, Riley and Avery Lynn with her ex, Jacob Bourassa.
Chelsea was arrested and charged with four felony counts of child neglect, maintaining a trafficking place, possession of methamphetamine and possession of THC. She was released on bond.
At the time, O’Donnell posted a photo of her daughter to Instagram, accompanied by the caption, “Sadly this is not new for our family — Chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade — we r all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease.”
Almost exactly a month later, on Oct. 11, a cop pulled Chelsea over while she was cruising around town. Police report that as they pulled her over, Chelsea attempted to throw a meth pipe into the river. Unfortunately, it collided with the fence and bounced back into police view. Chelsea was subsequently found with meth and pills on her. She was arrested and charged with three felonies of possession of meth, bail jumping, possession of narcotics and other misdemeanor charges.
O’Donnell adopted Chelsea when she was a baby with her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter.
Chelsea’s birth mother that paid for her $4,000 bond. In an interview with The Daily Mail, published on November 4, Chelsea fumed, “When I called Rosie to ask her to bail me out, she told me flat out, ‘You belong in there.’ She said: ‘I really can’t help you get out of there; I don’t want you to kill yourself. I don’t want to be responsible for you killing yourself.’”
On Nov. 19, a representative for O’Donnell’s released a response to Chelsea’s interview, stating, “The family hopes that she gets the help she needs.”
Chelsea’s hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12.
