‘Roseanne’ Returning To ABC For Eight-Episode Run
Classic show Roseanne is making it’s return to ABC for an eight-episode run.
ROSEANNE TO RETURN TO ABC FOR 8 NEW EPISODES
The sitcom about a blue-collar family ended it’s nine-season run 20 years ago. The reboot will feature the core original cast, including Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman, and Lecy Goranson. Sarah Chalke will also return but as a different character. It is unclear if John Galecki, who currently stars on The Big Bang Theory, will make an appearance.
Roseanne is currently listed at number 70 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the top 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. The show followed the Conner family as they struggled through everyday life under Barr as the harsh matriarch. During it’s run, the show racked up 25 Emmy nominations, and won four times.
ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey is excited to see the Conners back on the small screen. “The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant – and hilarious – today as they were then, and there’s really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne,” she said.
The plot is as of yet unknown, except that Goodman’s casting assumes that his character Dan is not actually dead. Season eight ended with a fatal heart attack, with his later appearances explained as part of a fantasy. In 2009, Barr wrote in a blog post that in the event of a reunion, “Dan shows up alive after faking his own death.” It remains to be seen if this is actually what the show plans to do.
