Roseanne Barr Tweets That She “Begged” ABC President Ben Sherwood Not To Cancel Her Show

The media firestorm regarding Roseanne Barr‘s tweet, in which she likened President Barack Obama‘s former advisor to an ape, will continue as long as the sitcom star keeps tweeting.

Last night, Barr tweeted that she begged President of Disney-ABC Television Group, Ben Sherwood, not to cancel her titular show, Roseanne. The tweet has since been deleted: “I begged Ben Sherwood at ABC 2 let me apologize & make amends. I begged them not to cancel the show. I told them I was willing to do anything & asked for help in making things right. I’d worked doing publicity4 them 4free for weeks, traveling, thru bronchitis. I begged4 ppls jobs.”

She continued, “He said: what were you thinking when you did this? I said: I thought she was white, she looks like my family! He scoffed & said: “what u have done is egregious, and unforgivable.’ I begged 4 my crews jobs. Will I ever recover from this pain? omg”

Barr answered many tweets and still stands by her original excuses, that she was affected by the sleep medication Ambien during late hours of the night and thought Valerie Jarrett was white.

Nonetheless, Barr’s ex-husband and former Roseanne writer, Tom Arnold, told The Hollywood Reporter that Barr wanted her series to be canceled. “It had to happen. And I am going to tell you the truth, she wanted it to happen, if you saw how her tweets escalated this weekend,” Arnold said. “If it hadn’t happened yesterday, this season would have been so awful for everyone every day because she would have felt like she was [being] taken advantage [of], just like when I left the show.”

Arnold then went on to weigh in on Barr’s character.

“ABC lost maybe $1 billion from this; this show was grinding out money hand over fist and they lost it all because somebody didn’t say, ‘Get that phone out of her hand,’” Arnold said. “She’s not going to go on TV and say these things. But you put that phone in her hand and she is a loose cannon.”

An inside source told People, “She’s not intentionally hurtful. They all loved each other on the Roseanne set. It really was one big happy family.” Additionally, the source revealed she is in a “deep darkness and is very remorseful.”

Later in the night, Barr tweeted “one more apology” for her racist behavior.
