Despite saying that she would be leaving Twitter, Roseanne Barr came back to the internet to say that she was “Ambien tweeting” when referring to her racist tweet towards Valerie Jarrett.
In yet another deleted tweet, Barr wrote that the sedative that helps with insomnia was part of the reason why she tweeted towards Jarrett. “Guys I did something unforgivable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible. I made a mistake I wish I hadn’t but…don’t defend it please. ty,” she wrote on her since-deleted tweet.

However, her excuse cause more backfire than expected, as many people pointed out that the drug has side affects, but becoming racist is not one of them. Others also said that she was using the prescription to defend herself. Barr responded by saying it was “an explanation not an excuse.”
The backlash ultimately led to the makers of Ambien, Sanofi, to comment on the situation and stated that “racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.”
President Donald Trump also commented on the entire Roseanne controversy, but focused more on the fact that Jarrett received an apology from ABC, even though he never got one for all the things they say about him on the network.
