Rory Kinnear, the Skyfall and Quantum of Solace actor, is rumored to be in line to play title character in Doctor Who following Matt Smith’s departure after this season.

"Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show,” Smith told Sky News last week. "I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realize all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years."

In recent weeks, speculation abounded that the next Doctor Who would likely be a woman, a non-white actor or both. Paris Jackson, the daughter of Michael Jackson who was rushed to the hospital last week, had even floated her name out for the part via Twitter. But it appears as though the BBC series will be sticking to form by selecting Kinnear to take on the role of Time Lord.

Although the reports about Kinnear landing the role has caused a bookie who had been taking bets on the casting to stop, reported the The Independent, the BBC is denying Kinnear has locked up the part. Others who have been rumored for the role have been Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint and Being Human’s Russell Tovey.

Smith will last be seen in the role of Time Lord in Doctor Who’s Christmas special in December.
