Carol actors Rooney Mara, Sarah Paulson and Carrie Brownstein hung out with Kate Mara and Amanda Peet during the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Saturday night.
The talented group of women appeared to have congregated during one of the commercial breaks during the 2016 SAG Awards. Peet and Paulson were seated at a table and received a visit from Paulson’s costars Brownstein and Rooney, as well as Rooney’s older sister Kate.
In Carol, Rooney stars opposite Cate Blanchett. Carol, an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel The Price of Salt, tells the story of an unlikely romance between housewife Carol (Blanchett) and young shopgirl Therese (Mara). In an interview, Mara revealed that it was easy to get into the mindset of her character, and that, thanks to Blanchett’s professionalism, the more intense scenes in the film weren’t too taxing to shoot.
“Certainly that’s how I felt about Cate, I was enamored with her, and I sort of watched everything that she was doing,” Mara told the New York Daily News, adding of her love scene with Blanchett, “It’s just like shooting any other really intense scene, if you’re shooting a really emotional scene, you’re naked in a different way.”
Paulson plays an ex-lover and close friend of Blanchett’s Carol. Brownstein, meanwhile, has a small part as a woman who flirts with Rooney’s Therese at a party.
At the 2016 SAG Awards, Rooney had been up for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her part in Carol, but lost out to The Danish Girl‘s Alicia Vikander. Blanchett was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Lead Role, but the statue went to Brie Larson for Room.
Carol is currently showing in select theaters.
