Ronda Rousey honored her promise to attend the Marine Corps Ball in South Carolina Friday, less than a month after her loss to Holly Holm.

Wearing a black gown, Rousey went with Lance Corporal Jarrod Haschert, who had invited her in a viral video last August.

As late as last week, there were rumors she wasn’t going to show. Haschert had said he hadn’t heard from her, and his mother said the same thing. But Rousey stepped up and went. And it was a good thing for her, she told TMZ.

“To get out of the house is probably a good thing,” she said. “I promised I would go, it’s an honor to be asked.” She also admitted that if she hadn’t been asked, she probably “would have stayed on the couch for another month, crying and eating ice cream.”

She had tried to keep it under wraps and not turn it into a publicity stunt, her camp said. But TMZ approached her as she was going to the airport.

It’s not certain that Rousey will be fighting again soon. If she doesn’t pass the mandatory MRI that happens in another month, she’ll have a 180 day medical suspension. But she’s determined to come back, and she’s ready to fight Holm again, as she confessed in an interview with ESPN.

“I need to come back. I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I’m going to pop my teeth out or break my jaw or rip my lip open. I have to f–king do it.”
