Roger Ebert Slammed Over Tweets About Ryan Dunn's Death

Bam Margera, longtime friend of the recently late Ryan Dunn and fellow Jackass costar, is fighting mad about a tweet that celebrated film critic Roger Ebert posted about the 34-year-old thrill-seeker, who died Sunday night in a car crash when his Porsche crashed into a guard rail, hit a tree, and caught fire in West Goshen Township, Pennsylvania. "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive," Ebert tweeted about the incident.

Though the official cause of the crash has not yet been determined, photos that Dunn tweeted of himself drinking beer on Sunday night are leading many to believe that he may have been driving while intoxicated at the time of the crash — though there was also an unidentified passenger in the car, who may have been driving. Either way, Margera, whose mother, April, was the first to break the news of Dunn's death on a local radio show, didn't take kindly to the comment.

"I just lost my best friend, I have been crying hysterical for a dull day and piece of s*** roger ebert has the gall to put in his 2 cents. … About a jackass drunk driving and his is one, fuck you! Millions of people are crying right now, shut your fat f***ing mouth!" Ebert, whose initial comment was called "insensitive" by celebrity gossip personality Perez Hilton on his site, defended himself despite all the criticism leveled at him. "Perez Hilton's readers agree with me and not with Perez about my tweet on Ryan Dunn. He drank, he drove, 2 people died."

  • I do think that Ebert's tweet was somewhat distasteful given the circumstances, but this tragedy is nevertheless an example of the dangers of drinking and driving. So while Ebert's comment is correct, he probably should have kept it to himself.
