British rocker Rod Stewart has called out Greg Wallace for his departure from U.K.’s MasterChef cooking show, following allegations of the presenter’s inappropriate sexual comments.
In a post to Instagram on Thursday, Stewart slammed Wallace: “Good riddance Wallace…you humiliated my wife when she was on the show, but you had that bit cut out didn’t you? You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya.”
He signed off “Sir Rod Stewart.”
It was reported earlier on Thursday that an investigation had been launched against Wallace and he would no longer be involved with the BBC competition show.
Allegations of inappropriate comments were made by 13 individuals who Wallace had worked with across a wide range of shows he hosted over 17 years.
A spokesperson for BBC said a statement, “We take any issues that are raised with us seriously, and we have a robust process in place to deal with them…we are always clear that any behavior which falls below the standards expected by the BBC will not be tolerated.”
The BBC’s statement specified, “Whilst these are historical allegations, incidences brought to our attention where these expectations are not met, are thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately.”
One of the accusers, BBC Newsnight presenter Kristy Wark, remembered the uncomfortable comments that Wallace had made in 2011 when she was on Celebrity MasterChef:
“There were two occasions in particular where he used sexualized language in front of a number of people and it wasn’t as if anyone engaged with this…It was completely one-way traffic. But I think people were uncomfortable and something that I really did not expect to happen.”
Wallace is reported to be cooperating with the investigation. In a video posted to Instagram, he thanked the fans who had shown him support through the allegations: “That’s good of you, thank you very much.”
Last year, Stewart turned down millions from Saudi Arabia to perform due to the country’s position of LGBTQ rights.
