Sir Rod Stewart has revealed that he has been battling prostate cancer in secret for three years. The 74-year-old singer-songwriter said that he was diagnosed in 2016 during a routine check-up. He is urging men to have their prostates checked.
During a fundraising event for the Prostate Project in Surrey, England, he opened up about his struggles. While addressing the audience, Stewart admitted, “No one knows this, but I thought this was about time I told everybody. I’m in the clear, now, simply because I caught it early. I have so many tests.”
Stewart shared with the audience that he has been in remission since July. He admitted his mechanism to managing his treatment was staying positive, sharing with the audience the best way to handle a diagnosis. “If you’re positive and you work through it and you keep a smile on your face,” he said. “I’ve worked for two years and I’ve just been happy and the good Lord looked after me.”
