Foo Fighters' Countdown Clock
The Rockin’ 1000 official video was released on Thursday – and already has over five million views. Fabio Zaffagnini came up with a plan last year to organize something that could be seen worldwide – specifically by Dave Grohl. The idea was to ask 1,000 rockers to play the Foo Fighters’ “Learn To Fly” all together and at the same time.
The campaign to find 1,000 band members gained momentum quickly — NME, Rolling Stone, Virgin Radio, Italian and many foreign music magazines helped spread the word all over Europe. Zaffagnini used crowdfunding to raise more than $50,000 for the performance, with the hope that it would convince Grohl and his band to hold a concert in Cesena in northern Italy.
The city rallied together to assemble 250 singers, 350 guitarists, 150 bassists and 250 drummers, creating the Rockin’ 1000.
Grohl himself saw it and posted the video to the Foo Fighter’s Facebook and Twitter page with a simple “Ci vediamo a presto, Cesena … xxx Davide” — meaning “See you soon, Cesena … xxx David.”
