Australian model Robyn Lawley shared a censored naked selfie on Instagram to protest coal mining in Australia.
Lawley is famous for being the first plus-size model to grace the cover of Austrailian Vogue, but she is also known as a vocal environmentalist.
On July 28, Lawley took to Instagram and Facebook to discuss Australia’s approval of Carmichael mine, what will be the largest coal mine in Australia.
“Coal Has No Future…and this Mine that will cause irrevocably damage, it is not even Australian owned…instead of focusing on renewable energy…we’ve gone backwards,” Lawley wrote on Facebook.
On Instagram, Lawley posted a selfie of what appears to be her nude torso. On her stomach, written in what looks like red lipstick, is the message, “Stop coal mining.”
In the caption, Lawley writes that she decided to disrobe for the photo in an effort to get people to pay attention and find out more about the coal mining in Australia.
“I’m shocked and feel powerless so I decided to get people to read this one way or another, we have to stop them…before its too late,” Lawly wrote.
In light of Lawly’s growing protest, Federal Environmental Minister Greg Hunt assured the public that, “The absolute strictest of conditions have been imposed ensure the protection of the environment, with a specific focus on the protection of groundwater.”
In addition to her environmentalist tendencies, Lawley is a body-acceptance advocate who created her own plus-size swimwear line.
