Robin Roberts Returns To 'Good Morning America'

Robin Roberts rejoined Good Morning America on Wednesday, five months after receiving a bone marrow transplant to treat MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome). Roberts, 52, opened the show by saying, “I have been waiting 174 days to say this… Good morning, America!” Roberts went on to cite “faith, family and friends” as the keys to her recovery.

In addition to the many crew members and viewers who were so glad to see her return, Roberts was also welcomed back with a message from the First Family.

"Good morning, America and welcome back Robin," President Barack Obama said in a video message.

"[W]e've been thinking about you and praying for you and rooting for you every step of the way," First Lady Michelle said.

Roberts, who previously won her fight against breast cancer in 2007, expressed her appreciation and joy about returning to work.

“I keep pinching myself, and I realize that this is real, this is actually happening and I don’t have my froggy slippers on. Or do I?”

Roberts’ return marked the culmination of a promise she made last June when she addressed viewers about her health problems and said, “I’m going to beat this.”

Good Morning America airs weekdays on ABC at 7 a.m. EST., with George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Josh Elliot, Lara Spencer and once again, Robin Roberts. —Hal Sundt
