Robin Roberts will be returning to Good Morning America on Thursday, Feb. 20, revealed the show on air this morning.
Her return to Good Morning America will mark five months since Roberts had to undergo a bone marrow transplant due to her battle with the rare blood disorder, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).
Roberts taped an interview a couple of weeks ago, revealing that there were no abnormalities present in her bone marrow and suggesting that she’d be planning her return to Good Morning America in the near future. She indicated that she’d be starting dry runs to get herself back into the routine of working on the show – including waking up at 4 a.m. and getting her makeup done on set. Roberts explained that this was largely for her doctors to see how many people she’d come in contact with in a day, how she’d handle the stress of the routine and other factors concerning her health.
With the dry runs nearly behind her, Good Morning America has released a video formally announcing the beloved host’s imminent return. In the video, famous faces such as Hillary Clinton, Denzel Washington, Jennifer Lawrence and the cast of Modern Family welcomed her back to her post at Good Morning America.
Roberts, both thankful for her health and being able to get back to her job, posted a note saying she’s "excited to re-join my wonderful 'GMA' family. I'm also looking forward to thanking YOU … for your many prayers and well wishes. Your compassion has been an enormous source of comfort to me and my family," according to USA Today.
