Rob Schneider accused pharmaceutical companies of being partly responsible for Robin Williams’ death, claiming drugs to treat Parkinson’s could have caused his suicide.
Williams’ widow, Susan Schneider, revealed that the comedian had been diagnosed with the “early stages of Parkinson’s Disease” prior to his death. In addition, Susan Schneider confirmed that Williams had been battling depression, something Williams’ rep Mara Buxbaum had stated when she broke the news of his passing.
Now, Schneider, who reportedly first met Williams working on Saturday Night Live, has put forth his theory on what caused Williams’ death: drugs. In a series of tweets, Schneider blamed pharmaceutical companies, alleging that suicidal thoughts is a side effect of a drug he claims Williams was taking to treat his Parkinson’s Disease.
Schneider went on to post a few more positive messages about Williams, calling him the Elvis of comedy.
It’s worth noting that Schneider has not named any drugs in his accusatory tweets, nor is it clear that he would even know what medication Williams was taking at the time of his death. However, Schneider is reportedly not Williams’ only friend to believe that Williams’ Parkinson’s medication might have led to his suicide.
“A lot of Robin’s friends are convinced that the cocktail of prescription pills he was on somehow contributed to his mental state deteriorating as quickly as it did. Robin had always suffered from depression and addiction but the diagnosis and treatment of his Parinkson’s was new, as was the combination of drugs he was on,” a source told the Daily Mail.
Williams’ family has not responded to these claims.
