Actor Rob Lowe decided to thank local firefighters in Southern California by feeding them dinner at his home.
“Dinner for new friends at our house,” he wrote in an Instagram post alongside a photo of a group of firefighters in uniform chowing down on pasta and cheeseburgers. In a subsequent post, the actor added, “Thank you to all the crews from all over the country who stood tall and saved my town. #respect #gratitude.” A third post was made, with a photo of himself in firefighter gear with the caption, “Helping earlier today. You do what you can, but when it’s time… you GO.”
The three posts accumulated more than 100,000 likes in less than 24 hours.
Lowe is one of many Hollywood stars who own property in the path of the fast moving wildfires, which began moving toward the wealthy area of Montecito over the weekend. Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres also have homes there.
So far, the fire has burned 271,000 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, bringing it up to the third-largest wildfire in the state’s history. The Thomas fire began on Dec. 4, and authorities are estimating it will take weeks to fully contain. As of Dec. 18, the fire has been 50% contained.
