Rob Ford To Run For Toronto Mayor In 2018

Rob Ford confirmed he would be running for Mayor in 2018 during a Twitter exchange on Wednesday.

During his troubled terms as mayor, Ford urinated in public, threatened to murder someone, and confessed to smoking crack. Ford has spoken about running in previous years but wasn’t certain due to his health.

The former mayor gained notoriety in May 2013 after a video emerged of Ford smoking crack. Ford and his team of lawyers denied all allegations. His lawyer, Dennis Morris, said the video was “false and defamatory.” After further investigations by the Toronto police and obtaining the video, Ford was forced to admit he was smoking crack but only in a “drunk stupor,” but he refused to resign.

Following Ford’s confession, the Toronto city council was legally unable to remove him from office. Instead, they stripped him of some of his mayoral powers and assigned the powers to deputy mayor Norm Kelly for the remainder of Ford’s term.

Ford’s official’s behavior become more erratic and strange. In 2003, he called a colleague at a city council meeting a “slithering snake” who “should be back in his cage where he comes from.” A year earlier, while discussing a public meeting on the possibility of a homeless shelter in his district, he asked: “why don’t we have a public lynching?” Ford was also thrown out of a Maple Leafs’ hockey game after getting in a fight with fans while drunk.

In October 2013, Ford was spotted urinating on Etobicoke Public School. Following that incident, Ford knocked over elderly politician, Pam McConnell, during a raucous debate. In that same month, a video was released of Ford allegedly claiming he was going to kill a man.

“I’m gonna kill that f–king guy. I’m telling you, it’s first-degree murder,” Ford yelled in the video.

Ford took a leave of absence and entered drug rehab and in 2014 registered for re-election but had to drop out due to an abnormal tumor.
