Rita Wilson Is ‘Cancer Free,’ Preparing To Go On Tour With Her Band

Rita Wilson, who revealed her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year, confirmed this week that she’s beaten it.

Rita Wilson Is ‘Cancer Free’

“I am cancer free,” Wilson said at The Hollywood Reporter‘s Women in Entertainment Breakfast Wednesday in Los Angeles, according to People magazine. “I’m one hundred percent healthy!”

Back in April, Wilson announced that she had suspended her run on Broadway in Fish in the Dark in order to receive treatment for breast cancer. At the time, she lauded her doctors, expressed her gratitude for the cancer’s early detection and shared that she was likely to fully recover.

“I have taken a leave from the play Fish in the Dark to deal with a personal health issue,” Wilson said in a statement to People. “Last week, with my husband by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma. I am recovering and most importantly, expected to make a full recovery. Why? Because I caught this early, have excellent doctors and because I got a second opinion.

“I feel blessed to have a loving, supportive husband, family, friends and doctors and that I am the beneficiary of advances in the field of breast cancer and reconstruction,” Wilson added. “I am getting better every day and look forward to renewed health.”

Now that she’s back in good health, Wilson will be heading out on tour with her band, kicking off with a two-week residency at New York City’s Cafe Carlyle Feb. 23. The band will continue to travel through April and into May. Joining her and her bandmates on the tour bus will be her husband, actor Tom Hanks.

“He’s already said, ‘I am coming on the tour bus!’ So I had to get one with a bigger bed. So that was important. He’s coming. He’s going to be on tour,” Wilson said, joking, “He’s a roadie.”
