Actor Jake Gyllenhaal returned to the screen with a burst of action-packed energy in a recently unveiled Prime Video sizzle reel that includes Gyllenhaal’s soon-to-be-released film, Road House.
The reel offers a glimpse of Gyllenhaal’s transformation and showcases his impressively muscular physique as he stands in the midst of what appears to be an underground fighting ring. The intensity continues to build as we witness his character engage in a thrilling encounter with a formidable group of adversaries in a dimly lit parking lot.
With a swift strike to an antagonist’s face, Gyllenhaal’s character delivers a sarcastic quip, “Oh, I just slapped you, are you alright?” This remark only serves as a prelude to the incredible display of his agile mixed martial arts skills, as he proceeds to decimate the rest of the group.
Road House is a remake of the 1989 action film of the same name, which originally starred Patrick Swayze. The story revolves around a security guard who takes it upon himself to protect a roadside bar in Missouri from the malevolent schemes of a local businessman.
Although specific details about the remake are still scarce, we do know that Gyllenhaal’s character is an ex-UFC fighter and, this time, the film is set in Florida. The project is helmed by renowned director Doug Liman, known for his work on films such as The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow.
Along with Gyllenhaal, the film has talented actors Daniela Melchior from The Suicide Squad, Billy Magnussen from Game Night, and UFC star Conor McGregor. Roadhouse is McGregor’s acting debut.
In addition to Road House, the sizzle reel also provided glimpses into other Amazon projects. Ricky Stanicky, a fantasy-comedy directed by Peter Farrelly, known for films like Dumb & Dumber and Green Book, stars Zac Efron and John Cena.
The reel also showcased snippets from This Is Me… Now: The Film, a musical led by the multi-talented Jennifer Lopez, the romantic comedy Upgraded, which features Camila Mendes, and The Idea of You, which stars the acclaimed Anne Hathaway.
Viewers were treated to a preview of various Prime original series, which included footage from popular shows like The Boys, Fallout, Expats, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and many more.
