Rihanna joined Chris Brown at court on Wednesday for a hearing pertaining to his 2009 conviction for beating her.

Brown and Rihanna arrived together at the Los Angeles Courthouse, where Brown was brought in to answer to allegations that he lied about the completion of his community service. Throughout the proceedings, Rihanna sat supportively in the gallery alongside Brown’s mother, reportedly even blowing her on-again boyfriend a kiss.

Brown sat stoically next to his lawyer, Mark Gregos, who was maintaining that the musician had committed no wrongdoing to Judge James Brandlin. The judge’s line of inquiry revolved around Brown’s alleged scheme to pull a fast one over on authorities – claiming he completed community service at a day care in Virginia without ever showing up. Since the judge lacked sufficient evidence, he commanded Brown to meet with his probation officer in two days to discuss the matter.

As Brown exited the courtroom, he had Rihanna lovingly on his arm. “I decided it was more important for me to be happy," Rihanna told Rolling Stone in a recent interview. "I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

Brown, plus or minus Rihanna, will have to report back to court on April 5.
