Ricky Martin To Join Season Three Of ‘American Crime Story’
Ricky Martin, the singer behind the mega-hit “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” will transition to the small screen in 2018 on season three of FX’s American Crime Story. Although he has appeared on television before, this will be his most high-profile acting role to date.
Martin will play, Antonio D’Amico, the long-time partner of fashion designer Gianni Versace. The third season of American Crime Story will focus on the murder of Versace in 1997.
American Crime Story‘s first season focused on the trial of O.J. Simpson and was highly regarded as one of best shows of 2016 – it won nine Emmy Awards. It was based off of the book by Jeffrey Toobin, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson.
The second season will take its cue from Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History by Maureen Orth.
Ryan Murphy, the show’s creator, is also the creator of American Horror Story, Scream Queens, Feud and Glee. Martin appeared on the latter as a Spanish teacher in an episode in season three.
Season two of American Crime Story is going to focus on Hurricane Katrina and the U.S. government response to the disaster. Matthew Broderick will play FEMA director Michael D. Brown. Season two is also set to premier in 2018.
Penélope Cruz has been cast in season three of American Crime Story as Versace’s sister, Donatella Versace, who took over the fashion house after her brother’s murder. Édgar Ramirez has been cast to play Gianni Versace.
Production on the third season is scheduled to begin soon. Meanwhile, Martin recently began a residency show in Las Vegas titled, “All In” and released a single in late 2016 titled “Vente Pa’ Ca.”
