Ricky Gervais boasted about his celebrity impression skills on Friday night’s episode of The Tonight Show.
When asked why he chose not to change his accent in his film Special Correspondents, like his co-stars Erica Bana and Kelly Macdonald, he responded: “The reason I don’t do accents, it’s not that I can’t, I just can’t be bothered. I’m a brilliant impressionist.”
Gervais believed he would be able to beat the record for most impressions made in a timed setting. Host Jimmy Fallon took Gervais up on the challenge.
A clock was set for 30 seconds, and Fallon threw out names of celebrities for Gervais to attempt.
The first on the list was Robert Di Nero. Gervais started off, raising the pitch of his voice and maintaining his British accent: “Oh, You looking at me?”
Inaccurately referring to Di Nero’s infamous line, “Are you talking to me?” from Taxi Driver, with full confidence, Gervais told Fallon, who attempted to correct him, “That is what he says.”
Gervais gave not-so accurate renditions of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Winston Churchill, Kim Kardashian, Bill Clinton, Christopher Walken, Jack Nicolson, Clint Eastwood and Oprah Winfrey, while barely getting an Al Pacino impression in on time.
