Richard LeParmentier, A.K.A. Admiral Motti From 'Star Wars,' Dies At 66

Richard LeParmentier, who appeared in the original Star Wars, died Tuesday in Austin, Texas He was 66.

LeParmentier's most recognizable role was that of Admiral Motti, the Death Star officer who dared to challenge Darth Vader’s belief in the Force, only to experience first-hand just how real it was.

LeParmentier was born in Pittsburgh and lived in Bath, England. He had small roles in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Octopussy and Superman II, among many other films. He was even married to Sarah Douglas, who played Ursa in the film, from 1981-1984. His turn in Star Wars, though, is the role his family chose to honor him by.

“Every time we find someone’s lack of faith disturbing, we’ll think of him,” the family’s statement read. They added later that he is now “one with the Force” and “has gone to the Stars.”
