Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Slammed For Saying Federal Workers ‘Do Not Deserve Their Paycheck’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) received harsh backlash on social media after claiming that federal workers do not deserve to be paid. For the past few weeks, thousands of federal workers have been laid off in a series of cuts overseen by Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s newly created initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Musk previously said he is seeking to cut federal government spending by no more than $2 trillion per year but recently downsized his target to $1 trillion. To achieve this goal, more radical federal spending cuts, including personnel cuts, might be required.

Greene sounded off at federal workers during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing. Regarding federal employment, she said, “You can protest all you want outside of the departments in this government. You can protest all you want, but the American people disagree with you.”

“You’re protecting the bureaucracy. The bureaucracy is not a business. Those are not real jobs producing federal revenue,” Greene claimed. “By the way, they’re consuming taxpayer dollars. Those jobs are paid for by the American tax people, who work real jobs, earn real income, pay federal taxes and then pay these federal employees.”

“Federal employees do not deserve their paychecks,” Greene declared. “And these are jobs that can be fired at will.”

Users on the platform X were quick to condemn her for her comments.

“She’s literally a federal employee,” one user wrote in an X post. “She just gets dumber every day.”

“How is her job producing revenue,” another user asked on X. “What does she even do for Georgia? And would she be willing to take a pay cut for the sake of country?”

“Says the parasite who hasn’t ever passed legislation to help her constituents,” yet another stated. “Meanwhile, her healthcare, pension and $174K/ yr salary is paid with our taxes. She’s a net loss on the ledger, hasn’t done a damn thing but cause division.”

Greene is no stranger to controversies online. In July 2024, Greene was slammed on social media after blaming Democrats for the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.

Last month, X users criticized her for demanding California officials manipulate the weather to end the Los Angeles wildfires.
