In a post on X Thursday afternoon, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) disclosed that her two daughters were victims of swatting.
Swatting refers to the act of making false emergency claims that trigger an extensive response from law enforcement agencies, typically targeted at public figures’ residences.
Greene wrote, “Both my daughter’s houses just got swatted today. Big thanks to the police who responded! We appreciate you and support you!”
Greene added, “Whoever is doing this, you are going to get caught and it won’t be funny to you anymore,” before she tagged the FBI account.
This incident shortly follows Greene’s own swatting encounter.
Greene’s home has been repeatedly targeted in swatting incidents over the past couple of years. In one instance in August 2022, a caller falsely claimed a shooting had taken place at Greene’s residence, while the next day another caller suggested harm towards her family.
In addition to Greene, several other public officials have recently reported being subjected to swatting incidents. Among them are Sen. Rick Scott (R-Florida.), Rep. Brandon Williams (R-New York) and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu (D).
The FBI launched a national database in June to track such incidents. The initiative was prompted by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York), who condemned these acts as “dangerous, disturbing and downright terrifying.”
Greene’s memoir, MTG, published through Donald Trump‘s publishing company, was released in November and currently has a one-star rating on Amazon.
Earlier this month, Greene claimed that she was a victim of assault by a fellow member of Congress.
