Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) compared former President Donald Trump to Jesus Christ at a Las Vegas rally on Sunday. Greene drew a comparison between Trump’s recent hush money conviction and the persecution of Jesus. In May, a jury found Trump guilty of all 34 counts of fraud related to the alleged affair with Stormy Daniels.
“The Democrats and the fake news media want to constantly talk about, ‘Oh, President Trump is a convicted felon,'” Greene said. “Well, you want to know something? The man that I worship is also a convicted felon, and he was murdered on a Roman cross.”
In March, Trump also compared himself to Jesus on Truth Social after a supporter sent him a message with a Bible verse: “Let his days be few; and let another take his office,” a possible reference to the upcoming election.
Last year, Greene listed Trump as one of the “most incredible people in history” before his arraignment in New York. In an interview with Right Side Broadcasting, Greene stated, “Trump is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today. Nelson Mandela was arrested, served time in prison. Jesus was arrested and murdered by the Roman government.”
Despite Trump’s latest conviction, a large percentage of Republicans remain firm in their support for the former President. Recently, Greene proposed the idea of “defunding” the state of New York for the jury’s verdict.
