The 18-year-old son of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado), Tyler Jay Boebert, was taken into custody on Tuesday after he was linked to a series of vehicle trespasses and property thefts in Rifle, Colorado.
Tyler now faces various charges, which include felony counts of criminal possession of identification documents and conspiracy to commit a felony, in addition to over 15 misdemeanor and petty offenses, as stated by the Rifle Police Department in a Facebook post.
The police department emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and, therefore, no further details can be disclosed at this time.
As of Wednesday morning, Tyler was listed as an inmate in the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office without bail or a scheduled release date.
This recent arrest of the Colorado Republican’s son comes amidst other personal challenges she has faced over the past year, particularly in relation to her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert.
Last year, she filed for divorce from Jayson, Tyler’s father and the father of their three other sons. Just this month, she was granted a temporary restraining order against him and alleged that he had made threats against her and had unlawfully entered their family home. In response, her husband claimed that he had entered the house to clean it in preparation for the arrival of Boebert’s grandmother, and he accused her of using the restraining order to justify her decision to move to a different congressional district.
In December, Boebert switched to a neighboring congressional district that predominantly leans Republican and thereby avoided a challenging re-election campaign in the district she narrowly won against her Democratic opponent in 2022 by just 300 votes.
Boebert cited personal family difficulties as one of the factors that influenced her decision to relocate from the town of Silt to Windsor within her new district. She expressed that the move would give her a fresh start after a challenging year for herself and her family.
Last year, Boebert was caught lying about vaping during a theater performance.
