Reneé Rapp‘s highly anticipated main stage performance at Reading Festival 2024 on Sunday was cut short due to a series of technical mishaps and unexpected weather complications.
The 24-year-old singer-songwriter, making her first appearance at the iconic British music festival, faced immediate setbacks as she took the stage. Her microphone malfunctioned at the start, forcing a brief delay as technicians scrambled to resolve the issue.
Returning to enthusiastic chants from the crowd, Rapp launched into her set with “Talk Too Much” and “Poison Poison.” However, during her third song, “Bruises,” strong winds dislodged rainwater that had accumulated on the stage’s roof from the previous day’s downpour. The sudden deluge soaked Rapp, her band and their equipment, prompting another hasty exit.
Displaying resilience and humor, Rapp quipped about the challenging conditions upon her return. “Somebody better call me a good sport,” she told the audience, acknowledging the difficulties while expressing her determination to continue the show.
Despite her efforts to salvage the performance, Rapp managed only a partial rendition of “Not My Fault,” her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, before another burst of water from above forced her to abandon the stage once more.
As crew members began dismantling Rapp’s setup and preparing for the next act, festival organizers displayed a message on the main screens, indicating a temporary pause in the show with hopes of resuming shortly.
This incident follows a string of technical difficulties at the festival, including headliner Lana Del Rey‘s set being cut short the previous evening due to production errors.
In May, Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion performed their song on SNL with host Rachel McAdams.
