The Star Wars official Twitter has teased the upcoming release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series coming to Disney+. The release date for the show has been confirmed to be May 25, 2022.

The tweet included a gorgeous shot of the Jedi walking through the desert planet of Tattoine, seeming much older and more haggard than when star Ewan McGregor last played the character in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, a long 17 years ago in 2005.

Little has been known about the series since it was announced in 2019. Fans were intrigued to hear that not only was McGregor reprising his role as Kenobi, which was one of the only positively-received elements of the film’s critically-panned prequel series, but also Hayden Christiansen will be returning to play Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. It’s unclear whether Christiansen will appear in flashbacks as Kenobi’s padawan Anakin, or in the show’s main storyline as the disfigured enforcer of the Galactic Empire Darth Vader.

Joel Egerton and Bonnie Piesse are reprising their prequel roles as well, which are Luke Skywalker’s adoptive family in Tatooine Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Other cast members who are in yet-unconfirmed roles include Kumail Nanjiani, Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
