Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava Phillippe attended the world premiere of Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time on Monday.

The actress, 41, also brought son Deacon, 14, to the premiere. Witherspoon wore a shining off-the-shoulder red dress, while her daughter opted for a simple yet stylish little black dress.

“So proud to be part of this incredible, moving journey of female storytelling with @Ava and this rest of the talented crew! #WrinkleInTime #Premiere #AboutLastNight ✨💫,” Witherspoon said on Instagram with multiple photos from the evening.

Witherspoon plays Mrs. Whatsit in the film by director Ava DuVernay based on the classic children’s book of the same name. “This is a happy movie in dark times, that’s what we wanted to do,” the director said on the blue carpet. “It’s a movie for kids and if you still have a kid in you, it could be for you too. It’s not for cynics, it’s just to open up and be free… It’s also for girls, who never see themselves at the center of the story… She’s not a superhero, I love those movies but this is just a regular girl in a plaid shirt and she saves the world. It’s a metaphor for what we all can do in our lives.”

Stars Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Storm Reid and Oprah Winfrey surprised fans with a trip to Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure over the weekend. The theme park was hosting a special exhibit about A Wrinkle in Time, which they attended.
