Viewers tuning in to what was supposed to have been the final episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4 to find out which drag queen would be crowned the winner was left in the dark. “Ladies, I’ve made my decisions,” host and judge RuPaul said after the top three finalists had lip-synced for their lives. “Chad Michaels, Phi Phi O’Hara, Sharon Needles, the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, America’s Next Drag Superstar is … going to be announced next week on RuPaul’s Drag Race Reunited.”
The contestants — and all the viewers at home — were left in shock, knowing that they would have to wait even longer to find out the winner. It was the first time in all four seasons that RuPaul had left the decision open like this — and the second time this season that a true cliffhanger had emerged. Last month, former contestant Willam Belli was suddenly disqualified, ostensibly because Belli had “broken the rules.” While theories have emerged about what those rules were, no official word has been issued, but we have been told all will be revealed on Drag Race Reunited, set to be taped Wednesday evening in Los Angeles and to air Monday on Logo.
“For the first time in Drag Race history, we are breaking all the rules,” RuPaul said earlier in the show, before asking Chad, Phi Phi and Sharon to lip-sync for their lives to her song, “Glamazon.”
