RECAP: Jenna Chooses Between Matty And Jake On 'Awkward' Season Finale

MTV’s teen comedy, Awkward, concluded its second season with a bang, or rather, a smooch. Jenna (Ashley Rickards) finally made her decision between Jake (Brett Davern) and Matty (Beau Mirchoff) … and the winner is … Matty! But it turns out that resolving her relationship woes only created more problems. Jenna, Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) and Ming (Jessica Lu) planned to go abroad for the summer and soon after Matty and Jenna became official, Jenna’s parents agreed to let her go to Europe.



Later, at a house party, Clark (Joseph Haro) revealed he was the anonymous commenter on Jenna’s blog, and in a busy night for Clark, he also got caught kissing Ricky (Matthew Fahey). In more news, Jake revealed he took the last open spot for the Europe trip, which meant Tamara could no longer go. Jenna then caught Jake and Tamara kissing, which initially upset her, but she soon moved passed it enough to actually give Tamara her spot on the trip in order to spend the summer with Matty. So everything works out! Or does it ….? The episode concluded with Jenna second-guessing if she made the right move. We'll have to wait until season three to find out where she stands.



Awkward received considerable critical praise following its first season, making the top-ten lists of critics from notable review publications such as The New York Times, The Huffington Post and The New York Daily News, while Mirchoff received the award for TV Breakout Star: Male at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards. Awkward has been renewed for a 20-episode third season that will premiere in 2013. In the meantime, many of the series regulars will be working on a collection of smaller projects, while Lu can be seen on NBC's The New Normal, which premiered this fall. —Hal Sundt
