Rebecca Black Releases New Single 'Saturday'

Rebecca Black has released a long anticipated follow up song to her viral hit "Friday": "Saturday" with Dave Days.

Rebecca Black New Video 'Saturday'

Black and Days duet on the track, which parodies Black’s early hit while also rebranding Black as an older artist. The video, reminiscent of Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" in which Black made a cameo appearance, opens with Black waking up after a late night of partying and takes her through her Saturday. Black and Days sing about partying and having fun all day long in this homage to Saturday: “This Saturday, we’re gonna party all night.”

The video was released on Saturday, Dec. 7, and has already reached 9 million views on YouTube. The video makes multiple references to the “Friday” video. Both begin with a close up of a small, electric alarm clock and Black is shown eating cereal from a bowl with the words “Gotta Have My Bowl” written on it – a direct quote from “Friday.”

Black has been trying to distance herself from the song that made her a household name while simultaneously making her one of the most-disparaged American singers. Her more recent YouTube videos feature an acoustic sound. In fact, Black and Days previously collaborated on an acoustic cover of Rihanna’s “Stay.” Black’s stripped down cover of Miley Cyrus’ hit “We Can’t Stop” also garnered her a lot of positive press when it was released in July.

In a video Black released on Black Friday, Nov. 29, Black revisited “Friday” to celebrate the occasion and, while she cringed throughout the video, she said that she didn’t regret her decision to record the song, saying, “’Friday’ was something that completely changed my life, and as much as even I laugh at it, it’s not something that I regret doing.”

ARK Music Factory

Since “Friday” Black has parted ways with the controversial producer, Patrice Wilson and the ARK Music Factory, behind the viral hit. Wilson’s newest production, “Chinese Food” by Alison Gold, another young girl, was released in October and has over 13 million views. The song received a lot of negative press, with many criticizing the song for it’s racist content and inaccurate portrayal of Asian culture.
