Rebecca Black, the young singer behind "Friday," covered Rihanna's hit single "Stay" in her latest YouTube video.
It's definitely an attempt by the aspiring pop star to present a more serious side of herself than the one she showed bouncing around in a convertible with a bunch of buddies gleefully shouting, "It's Friday, Friday / Gotta get down on Friday / Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend / Friday, Friday."
In the video for her Rihanna cover, Black and duet partner Dave Days, who plays acoustic guitar on the track, there's a much different feel. The pair are captured through an Instagram-like filter sitting in various spots – the top of a building, on the floor against a wall, on a couch in front of an outdoor fire pit. The wind blows through their hair as they look pensively out into the distance.
Although not a great performance, it does show that Black does have a decent voice – a fact that was eclipsed by the distracting lyrics of "Friday" that included, "Kickin' in the front seat / Sittin' in the back seat/ Gotta make my mind up/ Which seat can I take?"
Adam Lambert, Fifth Harmony and… Vin Diesel have all also covered "Stay," to various degrees of success.
